The NMH environment demands culturally-responsive and socially-aware teaching in the English classroom. From the texts chosen and topics addressed to the classroom pedagogies implemented and the varied methods of assessment utilized, students can often find themselves and their strengths reflected in their coursework. This room for diverse voices allows my English classes to become personally relevant for each student, thus increasing investment and, in turn, learning.
