Justice
Yonkers, New York
At NMH, Justice learned now to apply his classroom education to real-world solutions in his communities.
What brought me to NMH:
I would say it was definitely the community. I remember touring and just feeling incredibly welcomed as everyone said hi to my tour guide as we passed, while being very friendly.
The most challenging part of my time at NMH:
I would say it was my initial transition. Though I felt like I received a lot of support from my advisor and the teachers around me, there were some habits that I needed to form in order to truly thrive in the new academic environment I had entered.
My activities at NMH:
I am a part of the tennis team, swim team, orchestra, and debate team, and I am a Residential Leader and Student Diversity Committee leader.
Something new I tried for the first time at NMH:
I remember showing up to swim tryouts for the first time during my sophomore year despite never being a part of a swim team. This turned out to be a three-year swim journey as I trained to develop my technique.
My favorite class:
The Rhodes Fellowship Course in Social Entrepreneurship. Taking this class drastically changed how I view systems and power within American society.
My favorite spot on campus:
Definitely right next to the Li Wrestling Center, a rocky area looking down at the tennis courts. I love the mountain view behind, and I've enjoyed watching it change with the seasons.

Advice I would give myself if I could go back to my first day at NMH:
I would probably say: Don’t overthink it, and instead be in the moment. As a senior in my final semester here, looking back, I can see how I spent a copious amount of time thinking about the next step instead of pausing and realizing how far I've come.
My favorite activity:
It would 100% be playing tennis in the spring. Each year has been a completely new team and a completely new environment, yet I find that each season is the highlight of my year.
My favorite food in Alumni Hall:
Taco Tuesdays have to be my favorite. I spent the greater part of my three years at NMH developing the best combination of items, and I finally feel like I struck that balance.
My favorite NMH tradition:
The fireworks at Chat are 100% my favorite tradition. I remember going in my junior year and just being in awe.
What’s special to me about NMH:
The well-roundedness of the student body. I feel like people genuinely wear many hats around here, and they are not afraid to step outside their comfort zone.
How NMH has changed me:
NMH taught me how to apply my education to my outside community and extend the lessons I learned in a real-world sense.
What I will miss most about NMH:
I will miss waking up on this hilltop and seeing the community I have grown to love during my time here.
Plan for the fall:
I will be attending Occidental College in LA this fall!
