April 6, 2022 — NMH celebrated its student athletes and teams at the Winter Athletics Banquet at the end of a successful sports season that included national championships and other outstanding achievements.
Lauren Carpenter ’22, a member of the girls’ varsity hockey team, was the keynote speaker at the banquet and offered this advice: “Be curious. Choose to love it. Know your why.”
She said, “Athletics are good for people not only physically, but can also help you create tools that you will use for the rest of your life. Ask questions and be curious to find your limits in the competitive world. Make the choice to love what you do in order to tough out the hard times. Finally, if you are able to figure out why you do what you do — or at least try — it will help you persevere.”
Athletes on many winter NMH teams were recognized by the New England Preparatory School Athletics Council (NEPSAC) for their outstanding play this season. See the full list of NEPSAC winners here.
Girls’ varsity basketball won the New England 8 Championship. Boys’ varsity basketball reached the finals of the National Prep Championship.
Girls’ alpine skiing won the Mount Institute Ski League championship for the 10th straight year.
The wrestling team won the Class A Championship, and NMH wrestler Aiden Hanning ’22 went unbeaten in the National Preps Wrestling Tournament to earn All-American honors and finish in first place in his weight class to become a national champion.
