Oct. 23, 2020 — Head of School Brian Hargrove announced that an anonymous donor has made a $1 million lead gift to support important athletic facility improvements on campus and a $3 million challenge gift.
The donation will support renovations to James Gym for a new fitness center and construction of a new wrestling center, and renovations to McCollum Arena, the school’s ice hockey rink. Hargrove said, “This is an important and meaningful step for NMH as we seek to ensure that all of our facilities support our exceptional programs and serve our students well.”
The $3 million challenge gift means that the donor will match all additional gifts of $250,000 or more to the athletic project, up to $3 million. The match gifts will support endowed financial aid (up to $2 million) and other high-impact campus investments (up to $1 million).
“This donor sees NMH’s big picture,” Hargrove said. “Not only do they recognize the need for improvements to our athletic facilities, they also understand and share our priority of building the school’s financial-aid capacity."
The project has an estimated budget of $4 million. Hargrove said, “This generous member of the NMH community has done something really wonderful, which is to provide a path for us to fully fund a project that will highlight and strengthen NMH’s excellence. We couldn’t be more grateful.”
NMH will now retain an architect to design the project, and meet the challenge of securing the necessary funding. Once a design and funding are in place, the school will announce the project’s timeline and break ground.
