Dance

The dance program at Northfield Mount Hermon nurtures and challenges dancers as artists, technicians, and critical thinkers.

Our extensive curriculum is designed to inspire students to express themselves through movement in the studio and on stage. Whether preparing for college dance programs or participating in dance as a recreational activity, our students dive into the practice of becoming skillful and versatile dancers.

Northfield Mount Hermon has a wide array of curricular and cocurricular offerings to meet the needs of dancers at all levels. Experienced dancers in our two auditioned companies train and rehearse six days a week and present three formal concerts a year of choreography by faculty, guest, and student choreographers. Advanced ballet students in our dance companies can also audition for our very selective year-long advanced ballet course, Accelerated Dance Technique. Students at the beginning or intermediate level can choose from our many cocurricular offerings in styles such as ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip-hop, as well as our semester-long course Contemporary Dance Fundamentals.

At NMH, we weave the physical and mental work of dance with collaboration, curiosity, and creativity. We view dance as a language. Dance is poetic, technical, and communicative, and we invite all voices to the conversation.
