Admission

Down to earth. Up to your potential. That’s what you can expect at Northfield Mount Hermon.

Greetings from the dean of enrollment

We understand that getting the right education in a safe environment is at the forefront of your mind. At NMH, we will demonstrate that we can do just this. We also realize that you may need to make a decision about a school without visiting. We have beautiful spaces for you to see and welcoming, caring people for you to meet — this year, because safety is paramount at NMH, we’ll bring it all to you through online student-led tours and admission interviews.

While this year may be different, what hasn’t changed is the level of attention NMH will offer you and your family. As a prospective student, you'll be matched with an admission counselor who will actively support you in making connections with the people, the program, and this place.

Our counselors’ work is modeled after NMH's student-advising system, which focuses on the whole student. Our school motto is "education for the head, heart, and hand," and we take that seriously — we look beyond the surface, providing care, challenge, and encouragement for each student considering NMH.

So, let’s start with an online tour — a student ambassador will bring NMH to life for you by taking you around our campus, virtually, and  answering your questions. I hope you are ready to begin, click here for the schedule.

—Claude Anderson, NMH Dean of Enrollment

We're not going to offer you a cookie-cutter education. It’s about your path. We help you become the best thinker, student, community member, and citizen of the world that you can be. That’s what it means to be well-grounded.

Why NMH Students Are Well-Grounded

Rigorous, Collaborative Academics

Classes are rooted in our College-Model Academic Program, which extends the time for intellectual discovery and deepens every student’s experience. Our 80-minute classes cover more ground. Even though students take “only” three courses each semester, they end up with six core academic courses a year instead of the typical five.

Exceptional, Holistic Support

No one at NMH goes it alone. Our Partnership of 12 program provides every student with a support network of adults who make sure students have what they need to succeed. Whether it’s in the dorm, in class, on the field, or on the job, there’s always someone students can connect with and count on.

Experiential Exploration

Outside of class? You’ll find our students digging into 60-plus sports teams, some 25 performing-arts ensembles, and loads of student-led clubs and organizations. All students also contribute to the day-to-day running of the school through their “workjobs,” which meet four hours a week.

Preparation for Life

Among our 27,000 living alumni, we claim Grammy, Oscar, and Pulitzer winners; U.S. ambassadors and White House advisors; and hundreds of notable athletes, educators, humanitarians, and business leaders. But we’re most proud of how prepared our graduates are to do good things in the world. They respect themselves and others. They know the value of hard work. And they know that engaging with their communities and others — making meaningful contributions to people and places and ideas — is what matters.

Discover Your Path

Is NMH the place for you to thrive? The best way to find out is to come and see for yourself. Come for a visit during one of our Open House or Class Visit Day events, and you’ll start to see and feel all the reasons to choose Northfield Mount Hermon. You might wander down to our working farm, or peek into our turn-of-the-century chapel. Maybe you’ll have lunch with someone from a different country. Or you’ll find yourself talking with one of our amazing teachers, who are serious about their intellectual work but also fun and supportive people to hang out with.
