Girls Ice Hockey at NMH
The Northfield Mount Hermon girls’ hockey team plays in the prestigious New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC) at the Division I level. NMH has been a proving ground for the development of girls’ ice hockey players who have gone on to play NCAA DI and DIII college hockey.
NMH hockey is defined by hard work, resilience, and the love of the game. Our program focuses on player development with a foundation of focused, high intensity practices. Practices are designed to improve player and team skill sets while emphasizing hard work and the joy of competing. The team trains in the Caligione Fitness Center twice a week and also watches game video on a weekly basis.
Brianna Wood enters her first year at NMH as the head coach of a program ready to rise. Wood, a native of the Chicago area, comes to NMH from Charlotte, North Carolina, where she was a coach in the Queen City Royals organization. There, she led two club teams, taught private lessons, and served as the marketing and social media director for the Extreme Ice Center.
Wood attended Vermont Academy and was recruited by Aurora University as part of the school’s launch of a women's ice hockey program. She served a key role for AU, which qualified for the conference playoffs by its third season. Wood graduated from Aurora with a bachelor of arts in sports management and youth and development coaching.
"I'm excited about this opportunity and I am looking forward to joining the NMH community,” Wood said. “The school's ethos and its commitment to developing young people to contribute to the greater good of the world were key in my decision to come here; life goes far beyond the hockey rink."
Wood joins a legacy of success at NMH’s girls’ ice hockey program. Nadine Muzzerall, who has guided Ohio State University to two national championships, led the NMH program for seven seasons, starting in 2002. And Kristin Steele ’90, current head coach at Connecticut College and one of the most recognizable names in the New England Small College Athletic Conference, coached at her alma mater for three years before starting her collegiate career.
