Girls Cross Country at NMH

Cross country is a demanding sport with both physical and mental challenges, rewarding discipline and hard work. The beauty of the sport is that almost anyone, with the right attitude, can attain success.

NMH girls cross country welcomes girls of all levels of experience and our coaching staff tailors workouts to accommodate each runner. We prioritize team culture, and work to build a tight-knit community of runners who work hard, support each other, and have plenty of fun.

We compete in the NEPSAC A Division, one of the toughest conferences in the northeast.  Over the past two seasons the NMH varsity and junior varsity squads have been the most improved teams within our division.

The scenic NMH campus provides the girls’ cross-country program with some of the best trails in the northeast and features our official cross country course, rated as the toughest course in New England preps.

A number of our student-athletes go on to compete at the highest collegiate and national-caliber races. Many alumnae return for the school’s annual Pie Race - - America’s oldest cross country footrace – and credit their NMH XC experience with instilling a lifelong love of running.

Barry Auskern is the head coach of the girls’ cross country program.  He was a longtime coach at the Craftsbury Outdoors Center, one of the nation’s preeminent sports centers.  Barry has competed at the US Club Nationals Cross Country Championships, the USATF National Masters XC Championships, and the US National Snowshoe Championships.  He is a four-time finisher of the Boston and New York City Marathons.
