For NMH student-athlete Azalea Lazore ’28, lacrosse is more than a sport; it's a way to represent the Haudenosaunee people on the international stage.
As a member of the Haudenosaunee National Team, Lazore competed in Hong Kong in the U20 National Championship in August 2024. She’s now in the final round of try outs for the women’s team heading to Japan later this year for the World Cup.
Competing globally carries a deep sense of purpose and identity for Lazore. “For me, playing on the Haudenosaunee National Team means representing my community and Native communities around the world,” she said. “Lacrosse reminds people that we’re still here.”

One of her proudest moments came in 2024, when the U20 team became the first Haudenosaunee team to travel to Asia using Haudenosaunee passports.
“This game has given me endless opportunities,” she said. “I’m forever grateful for every chance I get to have my stick in my hand.”
Her international experience also strengthens her impact at NMH. “It’s helped form me into a leader,” she said. “I speak up when needed and lead by example.”
“Azalea’s global experience elevates the whole program,” said her NMH coach, Katie Clark. “She brings back knowledge from competing at different levels and against different styles of play. She pushes her teammates every day.”
