Carolyn Kuan ‘95

Carolyn Kuan ’95, internationally recognized for her versatility and innovative programming, has served as Music Director of the Hartford Symphony Orchestra since 2011, expanding its artistic reach and reputation. In this episode, she is joined by her former NMH teacher and mentor, Sheila Heffernon, to reflect on the powerful beginnings of their student–teacher relationship, which has grown into a lifelong bond of mutual admiration and friendship. Together, they share their journeys into conducting and explore how music can build community and human connection.
