Summer Program
Connecticut River Paddling Trip
A partnership with Deerfield Academy and Loomis Chaffee, Headwaters to Home: A Paddling Adventure Through the Connecticut River Stewardscape is an interdisciplinary learning adventure along one of New England’s most prominent ecological features.
The 10-day trip begins with a place-based training and orientation program in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom before students depart the Connecticut’s headwaters by canoe, paddling south past the three campuses by canoe. Along the way, you’ll stop at prominent sites and meet with local experts in art, geology, hydrology, and Indigenous history and culture.
By the trip’s end, you’ll have developed an intellectual, emotional, and embodied understanding of the watershed as both a socioecological entity and a metaphor for something larger: a paradigm for living well in a place wherever you go.
Headwaters to Home: A Paddling Adventure Through the Connecticut River Stewardscape takes place June 4 to 13, 2025.
Applications are due Nov. 18.
