March Break Trips

Healthcare and Development in Belize

Each year, Northfield Mount Hermon offers students opportunities to take part in service-learning programs over spring break. In the spring of 2025, the program will take students to Belize to engage in an intensive service experience in healthcare settings.

The program, a partnership with Global Public Service Academies, is open to all students interested in service and cross-cultural exchanges but is designed in particular for students interested in careers in medicine, pharmacy, biomedical engineering, dentistry, public health, and related fields. Students will receive training in facilitating medical interventions and screenings and take part in cultural workshops.

The curriculum includes a pre-trip cocurricular course at NMH on community and social issues, cross-cultural understanding, and basic medical interventions such as measuring blood pressure and infant height and weight.

Participating students will live in pairs with host families in San Antonio and Bullet Tree in the Cayo District. The clinical work will take place in these towns as well as other communities.

Students will also participate in excursions to better understand the cultural, historical, and natural beauty of the country.
