Environmental Conservation Service-Learning in Belize
NMH’s service-learning travel opportunities include a conservation-focused program in Belize. Students spend nine days exploring that country's natural beauty and learn about efforts to maintain that beauty, through participation in service and research projects.
Students in the program explore Belize’s diverse ecosystems, which range from rainforests and tropical savannas to mangroves and coral reefs, while developing a deep understanding of how these environments are interconnected.
You’ll hike and observe wildlife in the foothills of the Maya Mountains, explore underground caves, and get an up-close look at marine biodiversity while snorkeling in the South Water Caye Marine Reserve.
You’ll learn about conservation work through service and research activities at the Belize Zoo and Tropical Education Center, at Birds Without Borders, at the Runaway Creek Nature Reserve, and on the Belize Barrier Reef.
You and your classmates will also visit important historical sites, including Mayan archaeological sites at Caracol and Xunantunich.
