Musical at co-ed boarding high school in massachusetts

Northfield Mount Hermon's theater department has a simple but lofty goal: to put on great shows.

In that pursuit, we explore pieces from a wide variety of eras, styles, and worldviews. We perform enduring works, from Shakespeare's As You Like It to Greek classics like Antigone. We do Agatha Christie, Bertold Brecht, and Tennessee Williams. Throw in some big, splashy musicals and a handful of student-written and -directed one-acts, and you'll have an idea of the range of our theater productions.

Our theater courses cover everything from acting to set design and stage management to playwriting and directing. The classroom work is just the beginning; you go onto the stage and into the prop and costume shops and begin working on one of our faculty-supervised major productions. And our many smaller, student-run works put you in charge of everything.

Our theater faculty has experience writing, producing, directing, and acting in plays and films, and our students have gone on to win industry kudos. But the most important thing NMH faculty have to share with you is their love of this art form and the importance of building a supportive, creative community. They understand that, while a challenging monologue has its place, the real satisfaction comes from ensemble work. Collaboration is the heart of theater, making it deeply exhilarating.
