Dance

At Northfield Mount Hermon, dance is about a lot more than pliƩs and pirouettes.

For us, dance is an academic discipline, an important mode of communication, and an athletic endeavor. And it's a beautiful and challenging craft.

Our dance courses will teach you about the history of movement as an art form. You'll learn about influential choreographers and the science of how your body works. All dance courses fulfill the PE requirement for the term in which they are taken. We have classes in ballet, jazz, tap, and modern dance; we also offer private lessons.

There are two selective dance companies where students audition for a spot. The companies learn advanced techniques and perform at events throughout the year. If you are a member of one of the auditioned companies, your participation will fulfill your athletic requirement for a team sport.

At NMH, we think of dance as a language that requires attention from the physical, emotional, and spiritual self. It's exercise. It's enlightenment. It's a great way to tell your story.

For more information, and to see course descriptions, see the dance section of the online Curriculum Guide.
