Struggling in a class doesn't mean that you are not good at it.
Center for Academic Strategies & Achievement
CASA's mission is to nurture self-knowledge, self-advocacy, and self-efficacy in order to increase students’ academic confidence and efficiency.
Academic coaching through CASA is delivered in two ways:
- The CASA Tutorial: one-on-one sessions with an academic coach, held one hour per week
- The CASA Lab: small-group sessions with 12 students, led by an academic coach and held twice a week, for two hours per session.
CASA support aims to boost academic achievement by improving students’ executive skills (such as time management, organization, and goal setting) and study strategies. Through this work, CASA helps students understand better how they learn and what they need to do to be more successful scholars. For more information, or to sign up for CASA’s services, students should contact CASA director, Margaret van Baaren.
For subject-specific help, students are encouraged to meet with their teachers for extra help and to attend the writing-, math-, and science-help sessions held during study hall. Students who need additional support can hire a subject-specific tutor ($60 per hour for an adult tutor, $10 per hour for a peer tutor). Students can access the tutor lists through their advisors.
CASA provides equal access to the school’s programs by making reasonable and appropriate accommodations for students with documented learning differences. For more information, contact Margaret van Baaren.
