Our dance program nurtures and challenges dancers as artists, technicians, and critical thinkers.

Our extensive dance opportunities are designed to inspire you to express yourself through movement in the studio and on stage. Whether preparing for college dance programs or participating in dance as a recreational activity, you’ll dive into the practice of becoming skillful and versatile dancers.

At NMH, we weave the physical and mental work of dance with collaboration, curiosity, and creativity. We believe that dance is poetic, athletic, and emotive.

NMH offers a wide array of curricular and cocurricular offerings that meet the needs of dancers at all levels. Our dance courses will teach you about the history of movement as an art form. You'll learn about influential choreographers and the science of how your body works.

As an experienced dancer, you can participate in one of our two auditioned companies, which rehearse six days a week and present three formal annual concerts of choreography by faculty, guest, and student choreographers.

Advanced ballet students can also audition for our yearlong advanced course, Accelerated Dance Technique. If you’re at the beginning or intermediate level, you can choose from our many cocurricular offerings in ballet, modern, jazz, tap, and hip-hop, as well as our semester-long course, Contemporary Dance Fundamentals.

Performances

The NMH Dance Company stages three concerts every year, featuring choreography by students, faculty, and guest artists.

NMH dancers also take part in the annual National High School Dance Festival, where they perform, take part in workshops, and connect with dancers from across the country.
