Northfield Mount Hermon is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory school, located in western Massachusetts, with approximately 650 boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12, and a postgraduate year.

NMH employs approximately 130 people in teaching and administrative faculty positions, and more than 210 in staff positions. Some jobs are year-round; others offer an academic-year schedule or are part-time. Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic and motivated individual to ­­­­­identify, recruit, and enroll qualified prospective students and families in accordance with the NMH mission.  Each Assistant Director will be responsible for a specific geographic area.Territory responsibilities include travel, phone communication, interviewing and other responsibilities as assigned. Unique to the admission program responsibilities, the Assistant Director will be responsible for an applicant review committee as well as residential duty.

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years related experience; outstanding organizational, written, communication, and interpersonal skills preferred.  The ability to travel frequently is required.Candidates must have the ability to process and hold confidential information and exercise independent judgement. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google applications, and other web-based software is desired.  Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently.  Ability to work flexible hours and be on call during interim periods, some night and evening work.

School Mental Health Counselor

All NMH faculty candidates should possess a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives and learning of adolescents, and an eagerness to work with a diverse community in a boarding-school environment.


Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a committed professional to provide individual and group counseling to adolescent students beginning in the 2019-2020 school year; this is a full-time 10 month position.  As a member of NMH Health Services, the position works collaboratively and consults with the Health Center’s other mental health counselors, NMH’s consulting psychiatrist, and Health Services staff to support  faculty, deans, and other professional staff in their work with students; we work together to promote community understanding of the mental health issues affecting adolescents. The counselor may lead occasional dorm-based or faculty discussions on adolescent issues and serves as a member of the mental health crisis response team. 

The successful candidate must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and will preferably have a master's in clinical social work or an advanced degree in clinical psychology or counseling psychology with a specialization or interest in adolescents and multicultural counseling.  Additional qualifications include: at least five years of previous counseling experience; strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.

Adjunct Coaches

Northfield Mount Hermon, a secondary boarding school located in Western Massachusetts is actively recruiting adjunct coaches in the following areas:

The successful applicant will have substantial experience in athletics as a coach preferably at the secondary school level or higher education.  Candidates must have excellent organizational and decision-making skills and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Familiarity with rules and regulations of relevant athletic associations required. As an adjunct coach you may be asked to be available to students, colleagues, and parents for the necessary and sometimes unpredictable contacts that are an integral part of a boarding school program.

English Teacher

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic individual to teach English in an interdisciplinary humanities curriculum designed to develop the mastery of verbal skills; reading with discrimination; writing with clarity; listening with sensitivity; and speaking with conviction.  This position begins with the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in English, American Studies, or related discipline, as well as experience teaching English (preferably at the secondary level); Advanced degree preferred.  Candidates must be able to teach a variety of introductory, intermediate, and advanced English courses. Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and knowledge of current technologies for teaching.  

Responsibilities of the position include a combination of classroom teaching, student advising, resident dormitory supervision, and coaching or equivalents.  Candidates who can coach an interscholastic team two out of three seasons are encouraged to apply.

Plumber/Oil Burner Technician

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an experienced motivated individual to perform all facets of plumbing and heating system installation, repair, and maintenance. The Plumber/Oil Burner Technician assists with routine maintenance, repairs, replacement, renovations and new installations in all campus buildings such as classroom buildings, dormitories, office/administration buildings, and residential housing.  

The successful applicant will have a High School diploma or its equivalent with 3-5 years experience in the field. Applicants must have a Journeyman Plumber License; Oil Burner License, HVAC Journeyman and Pipe and Gas Fitters license all preferred. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse constituencies, as well as possessing outstanding written and oral communications skills. Applicants must have excellent organizational and decision-making skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely, quality-oriented manner and the ability to balance independent and collaborative work. This position is required to work flexible hours and be on call during interim periods, a valid driver’s license is required.

Custodian

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an energetic individual to carry-out campus custodial services. Responsibilities include general cleaning, floor cleaning, rubbish and recycling removal, building maintenance, the provision of occasional set-up and moving services for the school and school events, and other duties as assigned.

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills, and outstanding organizational and communication skills.  Two to three years previous experience preferred. The ability to communicate and work well with adolescents is required. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently.  This position requires the ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform repetitive motion tasks. A valid drivers license is required. This position is scheduled to work Wednesday - Saturday 6 am - 4:30 pm. Occasional overtime may be required.

IT Client Support

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an entry level Information Technology Client Support to assist students, faculty and staff in the use of technology to promote and support the educational program within the school. This position will act as first in line for Help Desk information, assist with e-mail system account management, and troubleshoot and fix entry-level application and hardware problems. Other responsibilities include promoting and supporting the effective use and integration of technology, remain current and knowledgeable in academic and media technology. 
 
The successful applicant will have 1-2  years experience in a technical support environment, working knowledge of PCs and Apple computers, ability to use Google applications and the ability to train others. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.

Northfield Mount Hermon, seeks a trustworthy, self-motivated individual to be responsible for the safety and well being of all NMH residents. The security officer is responsible for the safety and security of buildings; reports infractions of safety and school rules and answers switchboard and alarm receiver calls. This position dispatches or responds to all emergencies, provides contact for emergency responders, and/or compiles emergency information on log sheet.

The successful applicant will have the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently. This position requires a valid driver’s license and knowledge of CPR/AED. Applicants must be willing to work off-shift as needed and occasional overtime is required.
