Northfield Mount Hermon is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory school, located in western Massachusetts, with approximately 650 boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12, and a postgraduate year.

NMH employs approximately 130 people in teaching and administrative faculty positions, and more than 210 in staff positions. Some jobs are year-round; others offer an academic-year schedule or are part-time. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds who support the school’s mission to engage the intellect, compassion, and talents of our students, empowering them to act with humanity and purpose.

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an energetic individual to assist in meal preparation for the NMH community and customers. This position is responsible for the preparation, service and presentation of all meals according to established policies and procedures relating to: food quality, service, portion control and sanitation.

The successful applicant will have a high school diploma or more and 3-5 years of previous food preparation experience in an institutional/restaurant environment.  ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required. Additional qualifications include outstanding organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently.  Love of food and cooking is also a plus! NMH dining services staff work closely with our students, the ability to work effectively with and instruct adolescents in the preparation and service of meals is essential. Must be able to work weekends and overtime.

Groundskeeper

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an energetic individual to maintain the safety and physical appearance of the athletic facilities including the hockey rink and pool facility and at times, assist with the outdoor campus landscape. Other responsibilities include support and the collection and disposal of rubbish, recycling and surplus materials for the school and other duties as assigned.

The successful applicant must be able to acquire and maintain licenses needed for pest control in the turf industry; previous athletic field & grounds maintenance experience is preferred; the ability to work in adverse weather conditions is required. Successful applicants will have outstanding interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.  Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently. The ability to work well with adolescents is required. This position requires: the ability to lift approximately 75 pounds and perform repetitive motion tasks, a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a DOT,  2B and 1C hoisting license is required. Flexibility in weekly work schedule, some scheduled weekend work as well as overtime is required and must be available for 24-hour emergency call for snow removal.

Part Time - Reference Librarian

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic self starter to work at the library's reference desk and provide research, citation and technology assistance to students. This position will cover the circulation desk as needed and oversee the work of student library assistants. During evening hours responsibilities include providing an adult presence and helping to maintain study hall conditions.   

The successful applicant will have a Master’s degree in library science or equivalent experience and at least one year’s experience providing reference assistance and public services in a library. Candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and a demonstrated capacity to work effectively with colleagues and other members of the community. Evening work and occasional weekends required.

Part Time Driver

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a responsible individual to provide safe and comfortable transportation for students to off-campus activities and appointments.  Position necessitates good communication skills, and the willingness and ability to act as a student advocate when needed.

The successful applicant will have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and the flexibility to work at varying times throughout the day, with the ability to potentially work on occasional evenings and weekends.   Training in Basic CPR preferred.

Part Time - Administrative Assistant to Chief Operating Officer

The Administrative Assistant to the Chief Operations Officer  is responsible for overseeing, facilitating, and providing administrative support for the COO’s work and communications with board members, other senior administrators, the COO’s direct administrative reports, and the NMH community.  The position is responsible for the effective operation of the COO’s office; including the provision of general office administration and oversight, reporting and tracking correspondence, communications, outcomes and carrying out special project responsibilities as assigned.  Duties include scheduling meetings and appointments, fielding calls, and drafting and editing correspondence. This is a part-time position for a positive, energetic, well-organized individual who has office experience. 

The successful applicant will have 3-5 years or more of administrative office experience; familiarity with financial management and oversight a plus. Candidates must have outstanding editing, organizational, technical, oral and written communication skills; experience in professional correspondence-oriented writing preferred.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google products required. This position requires discretion and professionalism in dealing with sensitive and confidential information. The ideal candidate must be able to act independently with discretion, have the ability to manage concurrent projects, and be committed to the highest quality customer service.
