Northfield Mount Hermon is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory school, located in western Massachusetts, with approximately 650 boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12, and a postgraduate year.

NMH employs approximately 130 people in teaching and administrative faculty positions, and more than 210 in staff positions. Some jobs are year-round; others offer an academic-year schedule or are part-time. The successful applicant will have substantial experience in athletics as a coach preferably at the secondary school level or higher education.  Candidates must have excellent organizational and decision-making skills and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Familiarity with rules and regulations of relevant athletic associations required. As an adjunct coach you may be asked to be available to students, colleagues, and parents for the necessary and sometimes unpredictable contacts that are an integral part of a boarding school program.

Mathematics Teacher

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic individual to teach in a challenging secondary level mathematics program that ranges from first-year algebra through multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and number theory.  This position begins with the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field (master’s preferred) with a background sufficient to teach at least through Calculus, ideally including Statistics; experience teaching mathematics (4-5 years), and a knowledge of and experience with curricular design and development.  Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and experience using technology in the classroom, including graphing calculators, computer-based math applications and Google Apps for Education. Experience teaching computer science will be a plus for this position.  Knowledge of Robotics is desirable but not essential.

Candidates should also be familiar with boarding school life,  have a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents, and experience in equity and inclusion work that supports a diverse community in a school environment.

UPenn Boarding School Teaching Residency

The University of Pennsylvania’s Boarding School Teaching Residency (BSTR) program is a groundbreaking collaboration between the Penn Graduate School of Education and a consortium of the nation’s leading boarding schools.

With an innovative and comprehensive curriculum designed specifically for boarding schools’ unique setting, the program provides aspiring teachers an opportunity to receive a master’s degree in education, in concert with the exceptional fellowship programs offered by participating schools.

On a yearly basis we plan to hire a number of teaching fellows; probable academic areas are Math, English, Spanish and Religious Studies. We are especially interested in candidates who can coach at the varsity level, or who bring relevant experience in diversity work.

Academic Technology Coordinator

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic individual to facilitate and develop the effective use of computers and multimedia technology within the curriculum.  

The academic technology coordinators are faculty who may teach a major course each term, advise students, and participate in house duties or facilities proctoring (in the case of media centers and computer labs) as assigned.  While teaching loads may change from term to term, the balance of their available work time is allocated to their technology work, advising, and house or facilities duty.

The academic technology coordinator reports directly to the Dean of Faculty and works closely with the Director of Information Technology to implement system changes and upgrades and works with academic deans and department chairs to support and evaluate their learning and use of  technology.

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree in information technology, or related field; and 3-5 years experience; teaching experience preferred. Candidates must be qualified to teach a needed course within the NMH curriculum.  Additional qualifications include excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with software to track academic progress, Microsoft Office, Google products and experience with Blackbaud preferred. Some weekend and evening work required.

Spanish Teacher

Northfield Mount Hermon an independent co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks a dynamic individual to teach introductory through advanced Spanish in a world languages program that strives to engage students in using language not only for self-expression and communication, but also for providing insight into the social patterns, value systems, traditions, and attitudes of Spanish-speaking people throughout the world.  

In addition to native or near-native fluency in Spanish, the successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in Spanish or related field, a background sufficient to teach through advanced placement (AP) Spanish, and experience teaching Spanish as a second language (preferably at the secondary level).  Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills and an ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.

English Teacher

The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in history or related field and be eager to work with students at all levels.  Candidates should have a broad background that enables them to teach a variety of courses in the history and social science program, including both world and U.S. history.  Experience teaching basic Economics is also desired.

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an experienced motivated individual to perform all facets of plumbing and heating system installation, repair, and maintenance. The Plumber/Oil Burner Technician assists with routine maintenance, repairs, replacement, renovations and new installations in all campus buildings such as classroom buildings, dormitories, office/administration buildings, and residential housing.  

The successful applicant will have a High School diploma or its equivalent with 3-5 years experience in the field. Applicants must have a Journeyman Plumber License; Oil Burner License, HVAC Journeyman and Pipe and Gas Fitters license all preferred. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse constituencies, as well as possessing outstanding written and oral communications skills. Applicants must have excellent organizational and decision-making skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely, quality-oriented manner and the ability to balance independent and collaborative work. Production Manager/Event Coordinator - Dining Services

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an energetic, qualified individual to manage and be responsible for the administration, communications and sustainability operations of the Dining Services department.  The Production Manager position oversees all aspects of the dining services work job program, oversee purchasing, works with vendors contracts and monthly bids, and serves as the sustainability liaison between dining services and the NMH Community.  The position also works collaboratively to coordinate all communications, maintain salary budgets, process and code invoices, and coordinate and book special events within the NMH community.

The successful applicant will have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent with 2-4 years previous food service, restaurant or school food production experience at an increasingly responsible level; previous supervisory experience preferred.  HACCP Food Safety Certification is required. Experience/knowledge of allergen awareness highly preferred. Additional qualifications include outstanding organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently.  NMH dining services staff work closely with our students, the ability to work effectively with and instruct adolescents in the preparation and service of meals is essential. A high level of knowledge and comfort with computers is required; experience with CBORD, Menu Management, Event Master, FMS, Microsoft Office and Google products is preferred. A valid driver’s license is required and must be able to work weekends and overtime.

Groundskeeper

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an energetic individual to maintain the safety and physical appearance of the athletic facilities including the hockey rink and pool facility and at times, assist with the outdoor campus landscape. Other responsibilities include support and the collection and disposal of rubbish, recycling and surplus materials for the school and other duties as assigned.

The successful applicant must be able to acquire and maintain licenses needed for pest control in the turf industry; previous athletic field & grounds maintenance experience is preferred; the ability to work in adverse weather conditions is required. Successful applicants will have outstanding interpersonal, organizational and communication skills.  Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently. The ability to work well with adolescents is required. This position requires: the ability to lift approximately 75 pounds and perform repetitive motion tasks, a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a DOT,  2B and 1C hoisting license is required. Flexibility in weekly work schedule, some scheduled weekend work as well as overtime is required and must be available for 24-hour emergency call for snow removal.
