Northfield Mount Hermon is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory school, located in western Massachusetts, with approximately 650 boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12, and a postgraduate year.

NMH employs approximately 130 people in teaching and administrative faculty positions, and more than 210 in staff positions. Some jobs are year-round; others offer an academic-year schedule or are part-time. Northfield Mount Hermon, an independent co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks a dynamic individual to teach introductory and honors science courses in a program that fosters the process of scientific inquiry through a variety of instructional methods (including lectures, demonstrations, group problem solving, project-based learning, and laboratory experiments). Ability to teach chemistry and at least one other discipline is essential. This position begins with the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.  

The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in chemistry or experience teaching chemistry at the high school level. Preference may be given to candidates who also possess the ability to teach at the advanced placement level and/or have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds. Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and knowledge of current technologies for teaching.

Mathematics Teacher

Northfield Mount Hermon, an independent co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks a dynamic individual to teach in a challenging secondary level mathematics program that ranges from first-year algebra through multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and number theory.  This position begins with the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field (master’s preferred) with a background sufficient to teach at least through Calculus, ideally including Statistics; experience teaching mathematics (4-5 years), and a knowledge of and experience with curricular design and development.  Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and experience using technology in the classroom, including graphing calculators, computer-based math applications and Google Apps for Education. Experience teaching computer science will be a plus for this position.  Knowledge of Robotics is desirable but not essential.

Assistant Director, Admissions

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic and motivated individual to ­­­­­identify, recruit, and enroll qualified prospective students and families in accordance with the NMH mission.  Each Assistant Director will be responsible for a specific geographic area.Territory responsibilities include travel, phone communication, interviewing and other responsibilities as assigned. Unique to the admission program responsibilities, the Assistant Director will be responsible for an applicant review committee as well as residential duty.

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree and at least 2 years related experience; outstanding organizational, written, communication, and interpersonal skills preferred.  The ability to travel frequently is required.Candidates must have the ability to process and hold confidential information and exercise independent judgement. School Mental Health Counselor

All NMH faculty candidates should possess a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives and learning of adolescents, and an eagerness to work with a diverse community in a boarding-school environment.


Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a committed professional to provide individual and group counseling to adolescent students beginning in the 2019-2020 school year; this is a full-time 10 month position.  As a member of NMH Health Services, the position works collaboratively and consults with the Health Center’s other mental health counselors, NMH’s consulting psychiatrist, and Health Services staff to support  faculty, deans, and other professional staff in their work with students; we work together to promote community understanding of the mental health issues affecting adolescents. The counselor may lead occasional dorm-based or faculty discussions on adolescent issues and serves as a member of the mental health crisis response team. 

The successful candidate must be licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and will preferably have a master's in clinical social work or an advanced degree in clinical psychology or counseling psychology with a specialization or interest in adolescents and multicultural counseling.  Additional qualifications include: at least five years of previous counseling experience; strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills; and a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations.

Substitute Teachers - Bolger Center for Early Childhood Education

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks caring individuals to work with teachers and the Director in developing and carrying out the philosophy and curriculum of the Bolger Center for Early Education and Care. This position will be responsible for the care and supervision of children ages fifteen months to five years old.

The successful applicant will have a good understanding of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); previous experience, including the ability to work closely with others in a team teaching environment. Candidates must possess excellent organizational and writing skills, as well as outstanding communication and interpersonal skills along with Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care Teacher Certification.  Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently. Plumber/Oil Burner Technician

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an experienced motivated individual to perform all facets of plumbing and heating system installation, repair, and maintenance. The Plumber/Oil Burner Technician assists with routine maintenance, repairs, replacement, renovations and new installations in all campus buildings such as classroom buildings, dormitories, office/administration buildings, and residential housing.  

The successful applicant will have a High School diploma or its equivalent with 3-5 years experience in the field. Applicants must have a Journeyman Plumber License; Oil Burner License, HVAC Journeyman and Pipe and Gas Fitters license all preferred. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with diverse constituencies, as well as possessing outstanding written and oral communications skills. Applicants must have excellent organizational and decision-making skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks in a timely, quality-oriented manner and the ability to balance independent and collaborative work. This position is required to work flexible hours and be on call during interim periods, a valid driver’s license is required.

Custodian

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an energetic individual to carry-out campus custodial services. Responsibilities include general cleaning, floor cleaning, rubbish and recycling removal, building maintenance, the provision of occasional set-up and moving services for the school and school events, and other duties as assigned.

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills, and outstanding organizational and communication skills.  Two to three years previous experience preferred. The ability to communicate and work well with adolescents is required. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently.  This position requires the ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform repetitive motion tasks. A valid drivers license is required. This position is scheduled to work Wednesday - Saturday 6 am - 4:30 pm. Occasional overtime may be required.

This position is responsible for the preparation, service and presentation of all meals according to established policies and procedures relating to food quality, service, portion control and sanitation.

The successful applicant will have a high school diploma or more and 3-5 years of previous food preparation experience in an institutional/restaurant environment.  ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required. Additional qualifications include outstanding organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently.  Love of food and cooking is also a plus! NMH dining services staff work closely with our students, the ability to work effectively with and instruct adolescents in the preparation and service of meals is essential. This position is responsible for developing, editing, and proofing copy for all communications office initiatives including social media, print publications, e-newsletters, talking points, mass emails, web content, and news stories.

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree (preferably in English, journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field), at least five years’ experience in writing and editing, and proven content-development and social-media experience. Candidates should have superior writing, copy editing, and proofing skills; proficiency in managing website content and social-media platforms, and the ability to manage multiple complex projects while keeping deadlines and priorities in line. Proficiency with G Suite, Finalsite, and Blackbaud K-12 desired, as well as an overall ability to learn and use new technology platforms. Up-to-date knowledge of digital communications analytical and scheduling tools such as Google Analytics and HootSuite, and social-media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, SnapChat, and Instagram, required. IT Client Support

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an entry level Information Technology Client Support to assist students, faculty and staff in the use of technology to promote and support the educational program within the school. This position will act as first in line for Help Desk information, assist with e-mail system account management, and troubleshoot and fix entry-level application and hardware problems. Other responsibilities include promoting and supporting the effective use and integration of technology, remain current and knowledgeable in academic and media technology. 
 
The successful applicant will have 1-2  years experience in a technical support environment, working knowledge of PCs and Apple computers, ability to use Google applications and the ability to train others. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently, and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
