Northfield Mount Hermon is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory school, located in western Massachusetts, with approximately 650 boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12, and a postgraduate year.

NMH employs approximately 130 people in teaching and administrative faculty positions, and more than 210 in staff positions. Some jobs are year-round; others offer an academic-year schedule or are part-time. Northfield Mount Hermon is actively recruiting adjunct coaches in the following areas:

The successful applicant will have substantial experience in athletics as a coach preferably at the secondary school level or higher education.  Candidates must have excellent organizational and decision-making skills and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Familiarity with rules and regulations of relevant athletic associations required. As an adjunct coach you may be asked to be available to students, colleagues, and parents for the necessary and sometimes unpredictable contacts that are an integral part of a boarding school program.

Mathematics Teacher

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic individual to teach in a challenging secondary level mathematics program that ranges from first-year algebra through multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and number theory.  This position begins with the fall semester of the 2019-2020 academic year.

The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics or a related field (master’s preferred) with a background sufficient to teach at least through Calculus, ideally including Statistics; experience teaching mathematics (4-5 years), and a knowledge of and experience with curricular design and development.  Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, and experience using technology in the classroom, including graphing calculators, computer-based math applications and Google Apps for Education. Experience teaching computer science will be a plus for this position.  Knowledge of Robotics is desirable but not essential.

Candidates should also be familiar with boarding school life,  have a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents, and experience in equity and inclusion work that supports a diverse community in a school environment.

Responsibilities of the position include a combination of classroom teaching, student advising, resident dormitory supervision, and coaching or equivalents.  Candidates who can coach an interscholastic team two out of three seasons are encouraged to apply.

UPenn Boarding School Teaching Residency

The University of Pennsylvania’s Boarding School Teaching Residency (BSTR) program is a groundbreaking collaboration between the Penn Graduate School of Education and a consortium of the nation’s leading boarding schools.

With an innovative and comprehensive curriculum designed specifically for boarding schools’ unique setting, the program provides aspiring teachers an opportunity to receive a master’s degree in education, in concert with the exceptional fellowship programs offered by participating schools.

On a yearly basis we plan to hire a number of teaching fellows; probable academic areas are Math, English, Spanish and Religious Studies. We are especially interested in candidates who can coach at the varsity level, or who bring relevant experience in diversity work.

Academic Technology Coordinator

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic individual to  facilitate and develop the effective use of computers and multimedia technology within the curriculum.  

The academic technology coordinators are faculty who may teach a major course each term, advise students, and participate in house duties or facilities proctoring (in the case of media centers and computer labs) as assigned.  While teaching loads may change from term to term, the balance of their available work time is allocated to their technology work, advising, and house or facilities duty.

The academic technology coordinator reports directly to the Dean of Faculty and works closely with the Director of  Information Technology to implement system changes and upgrades and works with academic deans and department chairs to support and evaluate their learning and use of  technology.

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree in information technology, or related field; and 3-5 years experience; teaching experience preferred. Candidates must be qualified to teach a needed course within the NMH curriculum.  Additional qualifications include excellent written and verbal communication skills, and strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills. Proficiency with software to track academic progress, Microsoft Office, Google products and experience with Blackbaud preferred. Some weekend and evening work required.

Staff openings

Staff positions are diverse and range from entry-level to management.

Part Time Custodian - 6 am - 10 am (20 hrs/week)

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an energetic individual to carry-out campus custodial services. Responsibilities include general cleaning, floor cleaning, rubbish and recycling removal, building maintenance, the provision of occasional set-up and moving services for the school and school events, and other duties as assigned.

The successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills, and outstanding organizational and communication skills. Two to three years previous experience preferred. The ability to communicate and work well with adolescents is required. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently. This position requires the ability to lift 50+ pounds and perform repetitive motion tasks. This is a part time position, averaging 20 hrs/week.

Substitute Teachers - Bolger Center for Early Childhood Education

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks caring individuals to work with teachers and the Director in developing and carrying out the philosophy and curriculum of the Bolger Center for Early Education and Care. This position will be responsible for the care and supervision of children ages fifteen months to five years old.

The successful applicant will have a good understanding of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC); previous experience, including the ability to work closely with others in a team teaching environment. Associate Director, NMH Fund

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a positive and dynamic individual to help execute the strategy and activity needed to secure the leadership gifts within the NMH Fund. The Associate Director will work to cultivate, solicit, and steward leadership annual giving prospects among alumni, parents, and friends. This position requires critical customer service, relationship building, and excellent donor relations skills. This role will have high volume activity goals for calls, emails, and outreach and will be measured by both activity and conversion of outreach to gift activity

The successful applicant will have a bachelor’s degree; 1-3 years experience with personal or phone solicitation; relevant experience (sales, development, or customer service) may be considered. Candidates must have superior interpersonal skills and exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills. The ability to apply good judgement and decision making skills and maintain confidentiality is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google products preferred and experience with Raiser’s Edge or comparable donor databases is highly desired. Program Assistant - Advancement Office

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic self starter to provide administrative support and help manage projects and work flow for the advancement communications, NMH Fund, and frontline departments. This position will help provide administrative support to the Senior Director of Advancement as well as be assigned other special project management and office management tasks. This role will work in coordination with others across the Advancement department and the NMH campus to create the most efficient, sustainable, and successful processes and communications.

The successful applicant will have an Associate’s degree or combination of education and experience and at least 2-3 years office experience in an administrative role.This position requires the ability to be flexible and thrive in a high-paced working environment; expertise with use of data, project management, organization tools and has good attention to detail.  Candidates must have strong communication skills; written, oral and interpersonal. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google products preferred and experience with Blackbaud software is highly desired. Farm Assistant

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks a dynamic and creative individual to serve as a Farm Assistant. The farm assistant at the NMH Farm reports to the Farm Director, and is responsible for helping with all aspects of the daily operation of the farm.  Responsibilities include supporting overall farm operations, crop and product production, animal care, farm store management and order fulfillment, student supervision, and support of campus-wide initiatives. This position will work closely with students and will be responsible for supervising students in the work program.

The successful applicant will preferably have three to five years of farm experience; supervisory and/or teaching experience helpful. Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, natural resources, plant science, or a related field is preferred but not required.  This position requires the ability to do heavy lifting and to work the long hours in all weather conditions associated with farming. Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and reliable personal transportation. Additional qualifications include the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being a self-starter capable of working independently.  Some weekend and evening work required on a rotational basis, some travel on occasion.

Carpenter

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an experienced motivated individual to perform assigned carpentry tasks on the campus buildings in accordance with directions from the Lead Carpenter and/or the Assistant Director of Maintenance. The qualified applicant will perform a wide variety of carpentry jobs/tasks with quality and within a timely manner.  Some of the tasks include maintenance, repairs, replacement and new installation of doors, locks, windows, screens, shades, roofs and gutters, trim, siding, flooring, stairs, framing, drywall, masonry, bathrooms, kitchens, some furniture and any other needs of the school as seen fit.

The successful applicant will have a High School diploma or its equivalent with a minimum of 5 years experience in building and renovation. Applicants must have a good working knowledge of Massachusetts building code and have the  ability to read construction blueprints and CAD drawings. An unrestricted CSL is desired but not required. Additional qualifications include the ability to operate machinery and power tools, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, as well as being motivated, organized and capable of working independently. A valid driver’s license is required. Occasional overtime and availability for call in work is required.

Lead Plumber

Northfield Mount Hermon seeks an experienced individual to supervise employees and participate in the maintenance and installation of plumbing, and heating systems for campus buildings.  The Lead Plumber will be responsible for design and detailed record keeping for new installations or renovations; as well as estimating the time and materials necessary to complete assigned jobs/tasks. Additional responsibilities include training and supervising coworkers and new personnel. This position is responsible for assigning jobs and tasks to the appropriate staff members. Maintains valid Massachusetts Journeyman Plumbing License (Master Plumbing License and Oil Burner Technician License or Pipe Fitters License preferred).


The successful applicant will have a High School diploma or equivalent with  3-5 years experience in the field; previous supervisory experience preferred. Applicants must have a Journeyman Plumber License; Oil Burner License, HVAC Journeyman and Pipe and Gas Fitters license all preferred.
