Olivia Fleming Reaches 1,000 Points

Scoring 1,000 career points is a milestone few athletes reach, but for Olivia Fleming ’26, the moment represents far more than numbers on a stat sheet. In a Jan. 28 victory against the Kent School, Fleming hit that milestone. The achievement marks the growth, dedication, and relationships that shaped her four-year journey at Northfield Mount Hermon.

“One thousand points to me personally means growth, impact, and legacy,” Fleming said. “I set this as a goal for myself when I stepped onto campus for a tour with Coach Grace and my parents in eighth grade. I have grown as a person and player from point one to point 1,000, and my teammates and coaches have contributed to that.”

That sense of shared accomplishment has defined Fleming’s career. Reaching the milestone surrounded by teammates she has played alongside for years made the moment even more meaningful.

“This team is more like a family than anything,” she said. “I wouldn’t have gotten here without them.”

Grace Rehnquist, head coach of the girls’ varsity basketball team, credits Fleming’s success to her dedication.

“Olivia's commitment to off-season work and work when no one is watching is a large contributing factor to her consistency,” Rehnquist said. “She has spent countless hours working on her craft and being diligent to the fundamentals.”

That dedication has fueled more than just scoring. Fleming quietly fills the stat sheet, contributing rebounds, assists, and steals while anchoring the team with steady leadership. Once a reserved ninth- grader, she has grown into a three-year captain who leads by example.

“She leads from the front on and off the court,” Rehnquist said. “She is a far better person than she is a basketball player, and we have been very lucky to have her for four years.”

Even after reaching 1,000 points, Fleming’s journey is far from finished. With the postseason ahead, her focus remains firmly on team success and the pursuit of a NEPSAC AA Championship. The milestone stands as a testament to her work ethic, but her legacy at NMH will be defined just as much by the culture, leadership, and family she helped build along the way.
