Lucas Alvan ’26 Named to Brazil’s U20 and Senior World Teams

In November, Lucas Alvan '26 took a major step on the international stage, traveling to Rio de Janerio for one of the most competitive opportunities in his wrestling career: an invitation-only tryout inside the Brazilian Marines' elite wrestling facility.

The event served as a proving ground to determine who would represent Brazil at the next level on the international stage. Alvan previously competed as a member of Brazil's U17 National Team, but when he returned to Rio this year, he did so with a new goal in mind: earning a spot on both the U20 and Senior National Teams.

"This was a tryout to see who would represent Brazil at each weight class," Alvan said. "You're wrestling not just for a spot on the team, but for the opportunity to compete at the Pan American Games and beyond."

After a strong performance against the top-level competition, Alvan achieved a significant milestone, earning a place on both the U20 and Senior Freestyle world teams for Brazil. He is now focused on the Pan American Games at the senior level in Coralville, Iowa. If he places in the top three, he will advance to the World Championship.

From competing as a U17 athlete to earning a spot on both the U20 and Senior World team, Alvan's journey reflects his years of dedication, growth, and resilience.
