Welcome to Families 2025

Aug.14, 2025

Dear NMH families,

Greetings from Northfield Mount Hermon! I hope that you and your NMH students have enjoyed your summers and found some time for renewal in anticipation of the year ahead.

My summer began with Reunion Weekend, which always delivers meaningful conversations and poignant moments. This year, I met an alumnus returning to campus for the first time in 50-plus years on the steps of Memorial Chapel. As he gazed out across campus, tears welled up in his eyes as he struggled to share his story. When he did, he emphasized that his teenage years were hard, both at home and in our country. Yet, at NMH, he discovered his strength and his path forward. He noted, “NMH shaped me; it made me the man I am.” As we said goodbye and shook hands again, he gave me some advice. To paraphrase: Take care of your students; take care of this place; they need NMH.

Indeed, we know well that our students benefit in profound ways from our commitment to educate their heads, hearts, and hands. As we deliver an exceptional education for the whole person, we also nurture each student’s impulse to be a part of something larger than themselves and to serve the common good. Leaning into our mission and values, we equip our students with the skills, the tools, and the conviction to shape a more loving, equitable, and just world. As our alumnus reminded me, this is nothing new at NMH; it is in our DNA.

As we begin the 2025-26 school year, let us join together in the good work of challenging, nurturing, and loving our students so that they may strive to be the best version of themselves, individually and collectively. Let us also give our students the room to enjoy what each moment brings, to savor their journeys at NMH, and to engage with the joy, hope, and optimism that are their natural companions.

Thank you for believing in Northfield Mount Hermon, embracing our mission and values, and entrusting your child to us. Together, let us strengthen each student’s head, heart, and hands!

My best to you,
