Northfield Mount Hermon is an independent, coeducational college-preparatory school in western Massachusetts, with approximately 635 boarding and day students in grades 9 through 12, plus a postgraduate year.

NMH employs approximately 130 people in teaching and administrative faculty positions and more than 160 in staff positions. Some jobs are year-round; others offer an academic-year schedule or are part time. Religious Studies & Philosophy Teacher

Northfield Mount Hermon School, an independent co-educational boarding school in western Massachusetts, seeks a dynamic individual to teach religious studies and philosophy in a collaborative humanities curriculum designed to engage students in exploring the ways people are shaped by religions and philosophies. This position begins with the fall term of the 2023-2024 academic year. 

The successful applicant will have at least a bachelor’s degree in religious studies, philosophy or related field (master’s preferred) and the ability to teach a variety of introductory and intermediate level religious studies and philosophy courses including introductory religious studies and philosophy, world religions, ethics, and philosophy. Additional qualifications include strong interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within an interdisciplinary curriculum, and knowledge of current technologies for teaching. 

Candidates are expected to have experience in equity and inclusion work that supports a diverse community in a boarding school environment. They should also have a demonstrated interest in making a positive impact on the lives of adolescents. 

Responsibilities of the position include a combination of classroom teaching, student advising, resident dormitory supervision, and coaching or equivalents. Candidates are encouraged to include in their application experiences that may support our athletic and student life program.
