Academic Year Tutors
Make a difference in the lives of first generation and low-income college bound youth. Assist with homework, test preparation, tutoring and college applications in our after school programs in Greenfield, Turners, Springfield or Holyoke High Schools. The program meets between 2:30 and 5:00 p.m. (exact times vary by site) Mondays through Thursdays Tutors should have strengths in several academic areas including high school Math, Science, English, History, Spanish, French, Chinese and Latin, experience working with teens, and the ability to engage and motivate college bound youth. Tutors must have transportation to one or more schools. Experience working in multicultural settings preferred.

2012-2013 AmeriCorps Position
Advising Assistant- Sept 2012 to August 1,2013
Make a difference in the lives of low income/first generation young people who hope to go to college. Work with students from Holyoke, Springfield, Greenfield and Turners Falls who commit to our intensive academic program for four years. Tutor, mentor, support, teach, organize activities, lead college visits, and be part of a dynamic team of professionals who are working to increase educational opportunity. Gain a wide range of experiences relevant to careers in education, counseling and social justice.
Academic Year: Provide outreach service to students in 5 public high schools
Summer: Assist in our 7 week Intensive Summer Academy. Training and support provided. Most summer positions are residential and room and board are provided for 7 weeks.
Experience working with young people, preferably as a tutor, teacher or counselor
Commitment to increasing access to higher education for underrepresented young people
Strength in several academic areas
Driver’s license, safe driving record, reliable transportation, 21 years old minimum.
