Unit Paper no. 1 - Due in class Thursday, Sept. 13.

Write about the causes of the Asian economic crisis of 1997 and assess the impact of that crisis on at least one Asian society. Using GDP figures, assess the relative prosperity of Asia throughout its history compared to other parts of the world. Will the Asian economies grow to dominate global economic activity? Why or why not?

Use required readings, your reading notes, supplementary readings (extra credit), class discussions, and film material where appropriate. Practice solid academic integrity by inserting properly constructed annotations (more on this).

Unit Paper no. 2 - Due in class Tuesday, Sept. 25

Using Kristof, chps. 6-9, class discussion, along with film and supplemental readings as applicable, write a two page paper on the ethos of East Asia. Make sure your paper begins with a clear thesis. Footnotes are required, but not a bibliography.

Term Essay Bibliography - Due in class Monday, Nov. 19

Compile your bibliography (six to ten sources) in the acceptable format. Type, print, hand in. See course bibliography for another example of proper formatting.
