Mission
The Green Cup Challenge is an interschool energy conservation competition designed to measure a reduction in average campus electricity use over the course of one month. The goal of this competition is to educate the community about the sustainability (environmental and economic) of one’s actions, and to reduce the campuses’ ecological emissions of greenhouse gasses. The competition is designed to be student-driven, but will also encourage the participation of the entire campus community.

History
In 2003 Phillips Exeter Academy's Environmental Education Fellow, Patrick Leslie, developed and facilitated the Green Cup Challenge, a campus-wide energy conservation competition designed to raise awareness about energy consumption. The challenge was very successful, saving PEA thousands of dollars in utility costs, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and educating the community about the importance of energy conservation. At the 2005 NAIS Sustainability Conference, Tom Hassan (acting principal of PEA) challenged Northfield Mount Hermon and Lawrenceville School to an intercampus Green Cup Challenge to expand the ecological, financial, and educational impacts of the Challenge.
