Campaign Success!
June 30, 2010, marked the close of the 130th Anniversary Campaign and this year's Annual Fund. Below is a copy of the email announcement Head of School Thomas K. Sturtevant shared with the NMH community:
Dear NMH alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff, and friends,
I am very proud to announce that the 130th Anniversary Campaign has concluded with resounding success. At the close of the campaign on June 30, NMH received a total of $88 million in gifts and pledges, exceeding our original goal by more than 10 percent. This year's Annual Fund, a critical part of the campaign and essential to the daily life of the school, also exceeded its $3 million goal.
The 130th Anniversary Campaign was the most ambitious fundraising effort in NMH history. Nearly 14,000 donors supported the campaign since it began in 2002 with a range of gifts, pledges, and planned gifts between $1 and $10 million. These gifts and pledges provided scholarships for deserving students, funded our talented teachers and exceptional programs, and enabled the school to build new facilities. A $5 million cash gift from William R. Rhodes '53, NMH Board of Trustees chairman emeritus, created major momentum in the facilities portion of the campaign, enabling NMH to raise a total of over $28 million to build the Rhodes Arts Center, Shea Family Cottage, Mary MacKinnon Cottage, Bolger House, natural and artificial turf playing fields, and other campus enhancements.
The school's endowment also received significant, timely support. Leading the way was David F. Bolger '50, who committed the single largest gift on record of $10 million for scholarships, faculty support, and maintenance of Memorial Chapel. Overall the campaign raised $33 million for the endowment.
In light of uncertain global economic times, this campaign's success has been essential to strengthening NMH and ensuring that we have the resources to thrive and adapt in an ever more sophisticated and complex world. A formal celebration of the 130th Anniversary Campaign will take place on October 23, 2010. I encourage you to return to campus and witness the vitality of education for the head, heart, and hand as it continues to lay foundations of character and purpose for our students.
On behalf of our current and future students, faculty and staff, please accept my heartfelt thanks for your support and encouragement.
Sincerely,
Thomas K. Sturtevant
Head of School
