Main Events
Check out these popular events that take place each year!Tron Bon
A huge bonfire held each year in October is hosted by Overtoun dorm to get the school pumped up for Home Day and the fall season of sports. PhotosMountain Day
A tradition that dates back to 1881, Mountain Day is a surprise holiday, announced the evening before, with a dance to kick off the festivities. Fall colors accompany the entire community as we take to the hills, with seniors tackling Mount Monadnock, known as the most climbed mountain in the world, and other classes trekking less challenging terrain on the Northfield Ridge. Class picnics complete the day. PhotosRope Pull
The first Rope Pull took place in 1884 in the woods west of campus; D. L. Moody was a member of the first team. The junior-senior rivalry started in 1925, when the seniors challenged the juniors to a rope pull after having lost a softball game. In 1926 the event was moved to Shadow Lake and became a regular fall happening. PhotosHallowscream
Do you dare venture into the dorm basement after dark? On Halloween? NMH loves Halloween, and along with lots of student festivities, scads of faculty children also dress up and parade the campus, visiting faculty apartments and homes for handfuls of yummy treats. PhotosOpen houses
Open houses provide residents with an opportunity to show off their dorm rooms and provide food and fun activities for residents of other houses.DwightNight
A unique dinner dance created in 2000 to honor Dwight Moody, the school's founder, held in a beautifully transformed Alumni Hall with students dress to impress. Proceeds from the event go directly into a scholarship fund that directly benefits students currently enrolled at NMH. Mr. Moody would be proud! PhotosInternational Student Carnival
Every winter NMH students from countries around the globe and regions around the United States dress in local garb and cook their favorite family dishes for fellow students, faculty, and staff to sample. It's a great way to experience a small slice of what life is like for your friends. PhotosCoffee Houses
Poetry, spoken word, acoustic guitar, and other mellow artistic performance styles are presented. Students come for a hot cup of coffee and a laidback but entertaining evening.Mardi Gras
Perhaps the cities most famous for their Mardi Gras celebrations include New Orleans, Rio de Janeiro, Venice, Salvador da Bahia, Mazatlán, and now...Gill, Massachusetts!A Cappella Festival
NMH hosts three student-run a cappella groups: Hogappella, the Nellies, and Sweet Vibrations. As well as participating in off-campus festivals, the NMH a cappella groups invite other schools to NMH. In 2006 Hogappella opened for the Brattleboro College A Cappella Festival in Vermont.HoggerFair and Nfusion
The biggest, most fun social events of the year, HoggerFair and Nfusion take place in the fall and spring. There is lots of fun fair food, air bounces and slides, carnival games, a henna tattoo booth, a caricaturist, and much more. Live music rounds out the event. PhotosStep Dance Competitions
The NMH Step Team both hosts and travels to dance competitions with other area boarding schools.Gender Bender Dance
Students dress up like their favorite guy or gal friend and enjoy a hilarious evening of dancing. The Chat
NMH's senior prom is named after the former location of the dance, the Château, a 99-room reproduction of a French château that was torn down years ago. It is now held at Ford Cottage, beneath the stars and under tents decorated with twinkling lights. PhotosAlso:
