Next up @ Worcester Wednesday.
Juan Espana was the medalist for the match with a three birdie day and an impressive 38. The next closest score was a 42 from Worcester's number 4 player. Brandon Bete and Max Cummings came in with 43's. Brandon took a chunk out of his 60 degree wedge early in the match and we (the team) know how important that club is to him. Max struggled toward the end of the match with a few doubles, but was still riding well with his 1 under through 5 beginning. Kris Lawless came in with an even keel 46. And Alex Quzor was right behind with a 47. Alex could have used a bit more room for his long bomb off the tee. Cooper Hemphill tripled the first three of four holes and then recovered as best he could by going two over on the last five with one birdie.
The hoggers beat Cushing by 9 strokes in there first home match of the season. Juan Espana '12 took medalist honors once again with a consistent, solid three over par 39. Patrick Arena '11 was just one behind Juan with an impressive 40. Soosik Kim'11 came in with a 44 and Brandon Bete '12 struggled but managed a 49. Chris Galluzzo '11 hit a tree on the par three 9th hole and his ball ricocheted 50 feet into the front side bunker. He then came out of the very wet bunker and instead of his ball going into the parking lot he hit yet another tree and it bounced to stay in. His third shot was just off the green about 20 feet from the pin and he sunk the putt for a two tree, sand, zero putt bogey. Chris's score was one shot better than teammate Max Cummings '12 to round out our five best scores. Max was doing great (only 3 over) until his grandparents stopped watching and without his fans, he had a double digit score on the signature 8th hole. The best score for Cushing was a 44.
Record: 2-2 Next up Wilbraham Munson Saturday.
The golf team won by 29 strokes today at the challenging Crumpin Fox. Brandon Bete'12 was low score for the hoggers with an 83. Juan Espana'12 shot an 84 and Kris Lawless'11 came in with an 87. Juan Espana '11 shot 44 and Patrick Arena '11 and Cooper Hemphill '14 came in with 47 and 48 respectively. Thanks to Cooper for filling in last minute for a sick Soosik Kim '11. Westminster had the medalist score of 39.
NMH faced a strong team from Williston on their home course and lost by 17 strokes. It is hard to beat a strong team on their own course. Williston took the three low scores on the day with 36,37 and 39. Juan Espana '12 was our low man today with a 40. He was followed by Max Cummings'12 who shot a 42, Luke Poulsen'13 had a 43, Kris Lawless'11 and Cooper Hemphill'14 had 44's . Brandon Bete'12 struggled on two holes and came in with a 47.
t is a very rare occurrence to tie a team in a golf match, best 5 of 6 scores, but that is what happened today at Crumpin Fox as the hoggers faced a strong team from KO. Luke Poulsen'13 was the medalist on the day shooting an impressive 3 over par 75, a personal best for him in tournament play. Juan Espana '12 came in with an 81 followed by Brandon Bete '12 at 84. Max Cummings'12 and Patrick Arena'11 were close behind with 87 and 88, respectively. Chris Galluzzo'11 had an excellent front nine but struggled on the back. The Kingswood top two scores were 76 and 78. Heads up play and the ability to call an opponent on a rule infraction in a hazard came into play today.
The hoggers played a very strong team from DA Saturday in match play at Crumpin Fox. Juan Espana'12 and Brandon Bete'12 teamed up together to sweep the number one and number two players from Deerfield. They each won their individual matches as well as capturing the team best ball point for the 3 point sweep. Luke Poulsen'13 and Max Cummings '12 lost there individual matches and the best ball point on the 16 hole. Both played well but DA played better (in fact they threw a hole in one at them on the 3rd hole). Kris Lawless'11 and Cooper Hemphill'14 lost their individual matches but teamed well, despite being thrown 4 birdies and a 78 from DA's six man, they took the best ball to the 17th hole of the match, before surrendering. Patrick Arena'11 played a tough player (at the 7 position) and took him to the 15th before losing his match.
