Too many turnovers and some vacation rust resulted in the Boys JV Basketball team losing to a solid team from Marianapolis Prep by the score of 48-41 on Saturday. NMH got down early by the score of 9-4 and never really seemed to get on track all day long. Missed layups and missed foul shots haunted the team all game as NMH had numerous chances to narrow the gap but never took advantage of the opportunities available to them. Despite all this, Marianapolis had only a 23-19 advantage at halftime. But Marianapolis came out flying after the break and immediately jumped out to a 10 point lead to open up the second half. For much of the second half Marianapolis had a 12-15 point lead until NMH cut the margin to 7 at the final buzzer. Sophomore Luke Poulsen had a great first half pouring in 11 points while freshman Tanner Jillson finished the game with 8 points. Ryan Gravina also did a great job coming off the bench as did Kyle Andrews who saw his first action of the season due to an injury.
The Boys JV Basketball team suffered its worst loss of the season against a very talented team from St. Thomas More School by the score of 68-44. The Chancellors were simply too athletic and too aggressive for the Hoggers as they forced 28 turnovers and made numerous fast break baskets. NMH hit three big three point shots early on to keep the score even at 9-9 in the opening minutes of the game but then St. Thomas More turned up the heat and coasted to the easy win. Kento Kato, Jordan Katz and Josh Hayden all had 8 points for the Hoggers in the losing effort.
Rusty after a 5 day layoff over the long weekend, the Boys JV Basketball team lost to Winchendon School today by the score of 42-37. These two evenly matched teams swapped baskets and traded leads throughout the contest with Winchendon holding on for the win down the stretch. Jordan Katz led all NMH scorers with 12 points and Josh Hayden had a nice game with 10 points and 6 rebounds. Kyle Andrews and Jordan Katz did a great job guarding Winchendon's leading scorer.
When three of your players play their best games of the season you know you have a good chance of winning. And that was exactly the case as the Boys JV Basketball team traveled to Worcester Academy and came home with a nice 62-53 win over a pretty solid Hilltopper team. Freshman Tanner Jillson (16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals), sophomore Hassan Forrester (8 points, 3 steals) and junior Kyle Andrews (12 points, 11 rebounds) all contributed their best performances of the season in leading the team to the win. Jordan Katz played his usual fine game pouring in 14 points including 12 in the second half.
The Hoggers got off to a very sluggish start and were trailing 7-0 after the first few minutes of the game and halfway through the first half the team found themselves down by 9 points (18-9). But the team regrouped nicely and managed to tie the score at 24-24 before Worcester went on a late run to take a 31-26 lead at intermission. But the Hoggers, playing with only nine players, never gave up and came out fired up to start the second half scoring the first six points after the break and taking their first lead of the contest (32-31). But Worcester then went on a run of their own and took a 40-35 lead with 10:00 left in the game. But the Hoggers stepped up their defense and their running game and took control of the game down the stretch behind some great offense by Jordan Katz, Hassan Forrester, Kyle Andrews and captain Kento Kato and some tough defense by Luke Poulsen and Tanner Jillson who gave up many inches and pounds to the guys they were guarding at times. Overall this was a very nice win for the Hoggers!
Game Highlights:
Tanner Jillson: 16 points, 6 rebounds, 3 steals and some smart defense
Jordan Katz: 14 points
Kyle Andrews: 12 points, 11 rebounds
Kento Kato: 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals
Hassan Forrester: 8 points, 3 rebounds, 3 steals
The Boys JV Basketball team won back to back games for the first time this season as the team cruised to a 58-31 victory over Deerfield Academy yesterday. For the second game in a row some tough pressure defense combined with some easy fast break layups propelled the Hoggers to a victory. Everyone on the team played big minutes and contributed to the win. Freshman Tanner Jillson had another great game pouring in a team-high 14 points while Ryan Gravina scored his season high 11 points in a fine effort off the bench. Ryan Kelly, seeing his first action of the season after coming back from knee surgery, scored 7 points as did captain Kento Kato. Kyle Andrews and Hassan Forrester continued to do a solid job on the boards.
The Boys JV Basketball team lost its season finale by the score of 56-44 to a solid team from New Hampton. Too many turnovers cost the Hoggers dearly in this one as the New Hampton defense was too much for the team to handle. Trailing by 11 at halftime (30-19) and by 18 midway through the second half, NMH managed to cut the lead to 8 with about 7:00 to go in the game due to some great full court pressure. But the Hoggers ran out of gas down the stretch and the Huskies came away with their second win of the season over NMH. Jordan Katz scored 13 and captain Kento Kato contributed 9 points in the loss.
