Parents’ Council
The Parents' Council was formed in 1991 in recognition of the
great value of parent involvement in the life of Northfield Mount Hermon. This
organization, consisting of 40 parents, advises the school on issues of
importance to parents and helps strengthen the school’s connection with the NMH
parent community. Over the past 14 years, the Parents’ Council has provided a
valuable forum for discussing all aspects of school life.
Attracting and rewarding the very best teachers is one of Northfield Mount Hermon’s highest priorities. In 1993 the NMH Parents’ Council voted specifically to underwrite faculty salaries and confer Faculty Chairs Awards with money given to the Parents’ Fund.
These awards are given annually to outstanding instructors in three areas – academics, athletics, and residential life. The award recipients have their names engraved on plaques in Kenarden and receive a $5,000 cash prize. Support of the Parents’ Fund sends a powerful message of satisfaction to prospective parents, students, and most especially, to our very talented and dedicated faculty.
The Parents' Council meets once each term to discuss various issues. In past
years, the goals of the group have been to communicate the values of NMH; help
the admission office attract strong applicants; serve as parent contacts for the
wider NMH parent community; and encourage parent volunteer participation
in all aspects of school life, especially athletics and the arts. For more
