Introduction to the Outdoors
Introduction to the
Outdoors (ITOD) Students in this class use ropes, canoes,
bicycles, maps, compasses, and hiking skills to explore
rock ledges, rivers, lakes, foot and bicycle trails, and mountaintops
in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
ITOD
caters to students from all levels of outdoor experience—novice,
intermediate, and experienced. Students with advanced skills are encouraged to
assume a leadership role within their specialty.
Cornerstone outdoor philosophies such as Challenge By Choice, Leave No Trace (LNT),
and the Full Value Contract infuse every activity. After ITOD, students
graduate to activity-specific classes such as sailing, mountain biking, canoeing,
and recreational bicycling.
