Racing summary:
NMH brought a nice race to its early opener for the spring crew season, racing a good group of public high school programs on Lake Quinsigamond Saturday. We had lots of water time the past few weeks, and the preparation showed in a solid tempo and quick bladework for much of the race. We have a young boat this spring, with only three seniors in the boat, but they are developing very nicely and will only get faster as the season progresses. I am really pleased with our work so far!

Racing summary:
Difficult conditions in the second half of the NEIRA course turned this important race into a slogfest. Our junior varsity raced fairly cleanly despite the conditions, but were not able to sustain their power in the wind and waves. Our varsity raced well for the first half of their race, gaining open-water advantage on Brookline and Simsbury, and challenging Andover and St Johns as Exeter moved out strongly on the field. The conditions got the better of us in the last 600 meters of the race, however, and although we managed to hold on to fourth place, it was a wet and sober crew that landed their shell afterwards. Our primary goal was to race well, as we have done in our previous races, and we know we did not meet today's test with our best. The result does help our seeding for the NEIRA championships, and we look forward to another important race next Saturday against Tabor, BC High, and Brunswick.

Racing summary:
NMH squared off against some deep and strong boys crew programs Saturday. Our varsity earned a nice win over a good Brunswick boat, but remain about ten seconds behind two of the fastest crews in New England this spring. Our junior varsity and novice boats were up against some powerful competition, but raced well in defeat. The novice boat in particular impressed me with a clean race and no crabs in their first taste of racing

Racing summary:
A great day of crew racing on our home course - a big crowd, fantastic weather, a cooperative river, and some good close racing. NMH took the varsity event with a patient and confident race, while the JV was in a great race with Simsbury as well. Our novices found themselves overmatched against two stronger and deeper crews, but the four NMH boys who joined the Concord 5th boat got in a great boat race with the Concord 4th.
Racing lineups:
B1 "Heat": Henry Weis (coxswain), Ned Benning (stroke), Tyler Hudgins (7), Bo Dermont (6), Jack Prassas (5), David Kim (4), Travis Galowski (3), Tucker Emery (2), Charles Son (bow)

NMH vs Salisbury School
Wednesday, May 9th<?xml:namespace prefix = o />
Connecticut River, Gill, MA
distance: 1400m (upstream)
conditions: high current, light breezes, cool and humid
Results:
B1 Varsity
1. Salisbury 4:32.6
2. NMH 4:33.9
B2 Junior Varsity
1. Salisbury 5:01.2
2. NMH 5:23.7
B3 Thirds
1. Salisbury A 5:07.7
2. Salisbury B 5:35.2
3. NMH 6:23.5
Racing summary:
The varsity race was a closely-contested affair, and either crew had an opportunity to seize the advantage with 500m to go. After rowing basically even for 1000m, NMH and Salisbury traded moves over the next 20 strokes, with Salisbury taking three seats, and then NMH working its way back nearly to even. Similar to the Celtics game against Atlanta the night before, NMH seemed to lack that extra something to take control of the contest, and Salisbury won the day with a spirited finish. The loss drops NMH back to even with a 9-9 W-L record this spring.

Racing summary:
This was our first dual meet with Stonington High School, and our hosts in Mystic were great, the setting was gorgeous, and the Stonington crews were skilled and ready to race. NMH earned a close victory in the varsity event with a strong start, while the JV and novice crews were defeated.
