Commencement 2017: The Big Day Is Coming!

The Class of 2017 will complete its academic journey at Northfield Mount Hermon on Sunday, May 21. The 134th Commencement exercises start at 11 am on Thorndike Field.

Frank Shorter, who won the 1972 Olympic marathon and sparked a running boom across the United States, will give the Commencement address. He is a 1965 NMH graduate.

Peter Fayroian, NMH’s head of school, said, “Frank embodies so many of our distinguished alums who carried our mission of acting with humanity and purpose as they achieved tremendous success and recognition in the world. It's one thing to be perhaps one of the greatest long-distance runners in history, it's another to do that and to be an influential leader in his field and a humanitarian.” Read more about Frank Shorter.

Seniors and their families and friends are counting down the days until diploma time with a wide array of special events during the preceding week. Events for families and guests are summarized here. Events for seniors are listed on this calendar.

Although Commencement itself is open only to students, staff, faculty, and invited guests and will not be live streamed, a video of Shorter’s address will be made available online in the days following the event.
