- How do I borrow books, movies, or music from the library?
Come up to the circulation desk (the main desk) and show your ID (students) or give your name. Faculty, you only need to tell us your name.
- Do I need my ID to borrow from the library?
Yes and No.
Students: You may check material out of the library without your student ID, but we prefer you have it. Scanning the barcode of your ID assures accuracy and often helps the process go faster. If you have forgotten your ID, however, you may still check material out. However, an ID is required to borrow a laptop for in-library use.
Faculty and other community members: You may check out material by simply telling us your name at the circulation desk.

- May I borrow a video camera? a digital (still) camera?
Yes. The media center loans cameras.
- May I borrow a laptop? How?
Your ID is REQUIRED to borrow a laptop. Come to the circulation desk wth your ID. Laptops are for in-library use only.
- Does the library have textbooks to borrow?
Yes! The library has many (not all) the textbooks that NMH classes are using, on reserve at the circulation desk. Come to the desk and ask us for the book you need. Textbook reserves are for in-library use only.
- May I borrow magazines?
Magazines are for in-library reading only.
- I think I've lost something I borrowed from the library. What should I do?
Please come to the circulation desk and speak with an adult librarian. Patricia O'Brien is the circulation librarian and you will be referred to her.
- I think I returned something but I'm still getting overdue notices. What should I do?

- I work on the staff at NMH. May I borrow from the library? How about my children?
Yes! All NMH employees and their families are welcome to borrow from the library. If you or a family member do not have a patron record in the system, speak to an adult librarian.
- How do I borrow a book that is not in the NMH Library?
InterLibrary Loan is a service that is provided for all NMH students, faculty, and staff. Please allow at least 10 days for delivery. To request a title, click here.
- I am retired from working at NMH. May I borrow from the library?
Yes. You will need to register at the circulation desk with your current address, email, and phone number.
- I am an alumnus of NMH. May I borrow from the library?
Yes. You will need to register at the circulation desk with your current address, email, and phone number.
- I have no affiliation with Northfield Mount Hermon. May I borrow from the library?
Yes. Please register at the circulation desk. We will need your name, address, email, phone number, and proof of identification.
- How long may I keep library materials?
NMH students: The loan period for most library material is 21 days. The loan period for videos and dvds 3 days.
NMH Faculty and staff: Loans of books and compact discs are due at the end of each term. The loan period for videos and dvds is 1 week.
Other borrowers: 21 days for most library material, no renewals. - Material may be renewed in person on line or by SWIS.

STUDY IN THE LIBRARY
- Is the NMH Library quiet?
During the morning and afternoon the NMH Library is a place where collaborative study and conversation is allowed throughout most of the facility. However, a silent study area is always available to community members who want a quiet location.
From 7 P.M. till closing, study hall conditions prevail and group study is permitted only in the rooms to the right and left of the main entrance. The rest of the library is for quiet, undistracted, individual study.
- I have a group project I'm working on. Is there a place in the library for group work?
Group study is permitted throughout the library during the day, with the exception of the silent study room on the lower levl.
From 7 PM till closing, group study is permitted only in the rooms to the right and left of the main entrance.
- Is there a quiet place to go in the library where I will be not distracted?
Yes. The silent study room is on the lower level. (Go down the stairs. Turn left.) Silence rules in this room at all times.
- May I eat and drink in the library?
Yes, but please do clean up after yourself. Vending machines are located on the lower level.
GET TECHNOLOGY HELP
- My password/computer/printer/wireless is not working. Where do I go for help?
Visit the Information Commons to the left of the main entrance. Michelle (Mickey) Steiner is the tech support specialist.
When is IT help available in the Information Commons?
Tech help is available from an IT professional from 1 - 4 PM, Monday through Friday. RCCs (student technicians) are on duty during study hall, Sunday through Thursday evenings.
- I need to print/photocopy/scan something tricky. Where do I go? Will someone help me?
Visit the Informaiton Commons to the left of the main entrance or ask at the circulation desk.
GET MULTIMEDIA HELP
- I need to create a video.
Visit the media center, near the reference room. Pat Hasanbasic is the media specialist and she will be glad to help you.
- I need to edit a movie/sound file.
Visit the media center, near the reference room. Pat Hasanbasic is the media specialist and she will be glad to help you.
- I need to create a powerpoint presentation/podcast/videocast.
Visit the media center, near the reference room. Pat Hasanbasic is the media specialist and she will be glad to help you.
GET RESEARCH HELP
- I'm working on a research assignment. Is there someone who can help me find resources in the library?
Yes! Please stop at the library's reference desk. Reference librarians are available throughout the class day and during study hall.
WORK IN THE LIBRARY
- I am a student and I want a library workjob. Who should I talk to?
