NMH Library System Circulation Policy

 

The NMH Library System lends materials to students, faculty, and staff of the Northfield Mount Hermon School. Borrowing privileges are also extended, upon request, to the immediate families of NMH faculty and staff, parents of current students, and alumni/ae, Borrowing privileges are also available to members of the local community on a case by case bases, at the discretion of the library director.

 

Borrowing

  • Library ID numbers are stored electronically, rather than on discreet cards.
  • NMH Students are provided a library ID number upon matriculation, and are expected to show their NMH ID card when borrowing material.
  • NMH Faculty are assigned a library ID number at the beginning of their tenure.
  • NMH Staff are provided a library ID number upon request.
  • Other borrowers should be prepared to show proof of identity

Loan Periods & Renewals

  • NMH students: the loan period for most library material is 21 days.
  • NMH Faculty and staff: loans are due at the end of each term for most material.
  • Other borrowers: 21 days for most library material, no renewals.
  • Material may be renewed in person on line or by SWIS.
  • The renewal period for most library material is 21 days.
  • Students may not renew movies.
  • Items may be recalled for use for another borrower at any time after the initial 21-day loan.

Borrowers are responsible for all items borrowed on their library ID number, including the fines and replacement costs for items lost or damaged.

Lost/Damaged Library Material

For each item of library material (e.g. book or CD) not returned after the 3rd notice is sent, OR by the end of the school year, patrons will be charged a $10 lost fee per item, plus a replacement fee determined by the NMH Library.
If material is returned after the bill is paid, the replacement fee will be refunded, minus the lost fee.

Current Replacement schedule: Base cost includes a $10 non-refundable fee

  • Book, Fiction and non-fiction - $50
  • Children’s Book - $30
  • Paperback Collection Fiction - $20
  • CD – single item - $30
  • Movie - $30
  • Audiobook - $75

This chart is used as a general guideline. Final replacement charges of materials to be determined by library personnel.

Confidentiality

In accordance with American Library Association standards, patrons' records are private.  Librarians will not disclose the titles of items a patron has borrowed.  If a faculty member, staff member, or student would like an item that is currently checked out to another patron, librarians will contact the borrower and recall the material.
