A WEEK IN PROVENCE AND BURGUNDY TOO
MAY 1-8, 2011

Experience the beauty of the French countryside, the romance of the river, the delight of gourmet food, and superb wines on this delightful Saône and Rhône Rivers cruise through Provence and Burgundy. Explore the medieval towns of Chalon sur Saône and Beaune, the ancient walled town of Viviers, and Mâcon, where you can go on wine tours and tastings. See Roman ruins and the sites Van Gogh immortalized in legendary Arles then wander what has been called the best street market in Europe. You'll see history come alive at the Pope’s Palace in Avignon and in Lyon’s Old Town.
Your hotel sails along with you: All meals, plus wine with dinner, and city tours (with time to explore) are included.
Per person for a shared room is $3,199 when the payment is made through a wire transfer.
There is an option to extend your visit to Paris, pre-cruise.
Chalon-sur-Saône: Fly into Lyon and be transferred to your river boat docked in Chalon-sur-Saône. Time to explore on a get acquainted welcome walk. D.
Beaune and Burgundy Wine Tour: A scenic drive takes you through Burgundy wine country to Beaune, and the beautiful hospice museum of the 1400s, Hôtel Dieu. Enjoy a wine-tasting in a famous cellar. Then have leisure to enjoy more of Chalon’s old town. B, L, D.
Lyon: A morning cruise takes you through picturesque countryside to Lyon, where you tour the Basilica and then walk through the old cobbled streets of Vieux Lyon. Free time next to continue exploring this ancient UNESCO World Heritage Site. B, L, D.
Lyon and Vienne: A free morning to further explore 2,000 year old Lyon, then cruise to Vienne where you tour a beautiful town with a Roman past. Spend some time discovering more of this charming riverside Provencal town on your own. B, L, D.
Tournon and Viviers: Wake in Tournon and during a guided tour hear about the area’s wine making and taste some of its famous reds. Visit Musée de Tain l’Hermitage, then cruise to Viviers and stroll medieval streets in a quaint mountain setting. B, L, D.
Arles: Arrive during breakfast and take a guided tour. See impressive Roman ruins and experience the colors and light that inspired artists. Then the day is yours to explore or visit the famous market along the medieval city walls. A World Heritage Site. B, L, D.
Avignon: Tour another World Heritage Site, City of Popes during the 1300s. Stroll through the historic center, visiting the Papal Palace. The afternoon is yours to explore the town or visit the huge covered market for local color. Dock in Avignon overnight. B, L, D.
Avignon: Disembark after breakfast and transfer to Marseille airport for your return flight. If you wish, stay longer, with an optional extension to Nice and the French Riviera. B.

This trip takes you to Europe's colorful Christmas markets, where snowcapped mountains and the legendary Black Forest are the backdrops. You'll be able to shop for one-of-a-kind treasures in the charming markets of France, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
Fly overnight to Munich airport. Your tour begins in Oberammergau, Germany. This evening, join your fellow travellers for dinner featuring local delicacies. D
Today travel through the spectacular Bavarian Alps to Innsbruck, in the heart of Austria’s Tyrol. Your accompanying tour manager will discuss the history of languages then a local guide will take you through the city’s rich history, culture, and popular attractions. Shop during the afternoon at the charming Christmas market. B.
Your comfortable coach takes you to Munich to enjoy a panoramic city tour with free time to explore the historic area, then return to Oberammergau, home of the internationally famous Passion Play. B, D.
The scenic route across Germany includes a picture stop at Wies Church and Neuschwanstein, the most famous castle in Bavaria. Skirt the shores of Lake Constance to the Black Forest, setting of legends. Shop here for authentic cuckoo clocks, Hummels, and wood carvings. The evening begins with a private choral concert in an 850 year old church followed by a traditional Black Forest dinner. B, D.
Travel the picturesque valleys of the Black Forest and the vineyards of Alsace to Strasbourg, where Roman, French, German, and Alsatian history blend. After touring the charming old quarter, explore the superb Christmas market, then dine at a fine Strasbourg restaurant. B, D.
Spend today in Bern, Switzerland‘s beautiful capital. After a tour of the old quarter featuring the cathedral and the Swiss Parliament, explore more of the area or shop for handmade items at the local Christmas market. B.
A morning walk takes you through the romantic old town of Lucerne. The balance of the day is at leisure to do last minute shopping surrounded by snow-capped mountains in this city on the lake. Return to Bern, enjoy a celebratory group dinner complete with the region’s famous cheese fondue. B, D.
Say goodbye to friends old and new as you return to the US from Zurich. B.
