NMH Upward Bound
Information Sessions
Mount Hermon, MA--The Northfield Mount Hermon School Upward Bound Program is recruiting 9th grade students from six public high schools in western Massachusetts: Greenfield High School, Turners Falls High School, Springfield Central High School, Springfield Renaissance School, High School of Science and Technology, and Holyoke High School. The program is a federally funded year-round college preparation program for students who meet income eligibility or whose parents do not have a bachelor’s degree. Students who are selected receive free services, including tutoring, academic advising, after school classes, and help with college and financial aid applications in their local high schools until they graduate.
Participants also spend six weeks each summer in a residential program on the Northfield Mount Hermon School campus where they take classes, receive tutoring, go on college and cultural trips, participate in college preparatory as well as recreational activities.
Students who complete the Upward Bound Program have had a very high rate of college admittance, usually with good financial aid packages. Applications are available in the guidance offices at each school. Parents and guardians of interested students from these schools should come to one of the information sessions to fully understand the benefits and requirements involved. Students and parent/guardians who attend an information sessions will be given a priority in the selection process.
Applicants may download the application from the NMH UB website, www.nmhschool.org/upwardbound, or speak to the Upward Bound advisor in their school. They can visit their guidance office for contact information or call NMH UB at (413) 498-3416 for more information or to request an application.
