NMH State of the World Speaker Discusses Georgia Unrest, Election

MOUNT HERMON, MA—Northfield Mount Hermon School presents a discussion about the former Soviet republic of Georgia January 16 at 6:45 pm in the Rhodes Room of Beveridge Hall as part of its State of the World speaker series. Rick Lussen, the principal and director at the American Academy in Tbilisi, Georgia, and a former history teacher at NMH, will lead a 30-minute lecture about Georgia’s relations with Russia, November’s massive demonstrations and police action, and the January 5 re-election of the pro-Western president Mikheil Saakashvili.

Lussen holds a BA in history from Yale University; an MA in language, literature, speech, and theater from Columbia University; and an MS in geography from the University of Massachusetts.

The address is free and open to the public. The NMH State of the World speaker series was founded in the wake of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to foster dialogue between the school and local communities about world events.
