NMH Singers Join
Pioneer Valley Symphony Chorus
for Benefit Concert

GILL, MA— The Pioneer Valley Symphony Chorus, under the direction of Alexandra Ludwig, and the Select Women’s Vocal Ensemble of the Northfield Mount Hermon School, under the direction of Sheila Heffernon, will perform a joint concert called “Songs of Age and Innocence” to benefit Artspace. The concert is to take place February 25 at 3 pm at the Second Congregational Church at 16 Court Square in Greenfield.

With works by composers ranging from Brahms to Gershwin, the program will include works both serious and silly in a broad array of styles. The choruses will combine to perform “A Psalm of Life” written by local composer Clifton J. Noble and originally commissioned by the Cooperating Colleges of Greater Springfield Choral Festival in 2006.

The Select Women’s Ensemble is an advanced choral group from NMH. It performs a wide variety of songs from sacred to secular, and sings regularly at the school, including at the locally renowned Vespers concert. The singers have traveled to Washington, D.C., Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China, and Canada, and have won gold plaques at American Choral Directors Association festivals.~

This concert is part of the Pioneer Valley Symphony’s “In Concert With….” season and will benefit Artspace, Greenfield’s community art center. Artspace was founded in 1973 by parents who wanted more in-school and out-of-school arts experiences for their children. Artspace's mission is to encourage and nurture the appreciation of and participation in the arts by offering programs and instruction; and by advocating the importance of the arts in education and in the community. The programs serve 350 students annually with weekly lessons and classes both at their own facility, and through outreach programs. Approximately eighteen percent of students receive financial aid.

Advance tickets for the concert are $12 for general admission, $10 for seniors, $8 for students, and $5 for children. They are available online at www.pvso.org and at World Eye Bookshop in Greenfield, Broadside Books in Northampton, and Boswell's Books in Shelburne Falls. Tickets at the door are $14 for general admission, $12 for seniors, $8 for students, and $5 for children. Seats are unreserved.
