Christmas Vespers Tradition
Continues at NMH
GILL, MA—In the candlelit Memorial Chapel at Northfield Mount Hermon School, the community is invited to attend Christmas Vespers, a traditional service of music, readings, and carols. The event will feature the Chamber Orchestra under the direction of Martin Klueh, interim orchestral director, and the Concert Choir, the Select Women's Ensemble, and the NMH Singers under the direction of Sheila L. Heffernon, director of choral music. The program will take place December 10, 2006, at 3:30 and 7 pm at Memorial Chapel.
The repertoire will include familiar favorites, such as the Boar's Head Carol, Carol of the Bells, and the Brandenburg Concerto No. 5 by Bach, as well as the ethereal Ubi Caritas by Duruflé and the lush Virga Jesse by Bruckner. The featured work for orchestra and choir will be movements from the early Baroque Messe de Minuit (Midnight Mass for Christmas) by Charpentier.
A Holiday feast will be served from 5 to 7pm in Alumni Hall for any who would like to further celebrate the season. Guest fees for dinner are $10 per adult and $5 per child.
There is no charge for admission to the concert, but donations will be accepted and will be given to charities to benefit local communities.
