Northfield Mount Hermon Announces Christmas Vespers Celebration

NORTHFIELD, Mass—Christmas Vespers at Northfield Mount Hermon School will take place on Sunday, December 11, at 3:30 and 7 pm in the Memorial Chapel. In addition to the on-campus services, students will perform at St. Bartholomew’s Church in New York City on Friday, December 16, at 7 pm.

This year’s concert will feature a wide range of music, from a 12th-century chant by Hildegard von Bingen to the music of Latvian composer Arvo Part. In anticipation of Mozart’s 250th birthday celebration in January, the NMH Concert Choir and NMH Chamber Orchestra will combine forces to perform several movements from the Vesperae Solennes de Confessore, K. 339. Traditional carols and congregational singing will be included.

Leading the performing groups are Director of Choral Music and conductor Sheila L. Heffernon and Director of the String Program and Orchestra Steven Bathory-Peeler. Faculty members Marianne Lockwood and Ludmila Krasin will provide accompaniment on the piano, and Karen Guthrie is the organist.

The performances are open to the public. For more information, call 413-498-3281.
