NMH Presents 112th Concert of Sacred Music

May 8, 2006

GILL, MA—Northfield Mount Hermon School’s 112th Concert of Sacred Music has as its theme “Connections to the Earth.” The concert will take place Sunday, May 14, at 2:30 pm in the Auditorium on the Northfield campus.

The chorus will sing, among other selections, Haydn’s four “Seasons,” which illustrate our integration with the cycle of life. The piece is a fugue, or a composition in which a theme is extended and developed mainly by imitative counterpoint. The World Music Combo will accompany the Alumni Choir and the Concert Choir for “It Takes a Village” by Joan Szymko. Organ player Karen Guthrie will accompany the Alumni Choir for the exuberant “Psalm 150: Praise Ye the Lord” by Cesar Franck.

Sacred Concert is a cherished school tradition. The first concert was held in 1895 in the newly built Auditorium when Northfield and Mount Hermon students came together to sing gospel hymns for school founder Dwight L. Moody. The event was so successful that it’s been repeated annually ever since.

The concert is free and open to the public. For directions, go to www.nmhschool.org or call 413-498-3000.

Northfield Mount Hermon is an independent coeducational boarding and day high school in Gill, MA.
