NMH Theatre Program Puts On Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead

NORTHFIELD, Mass.—Northfield Mount Hermon School announces its production of Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead. Tom Stoppard’s witty comedy features two minor characters from Hamlet, Prince Hamlet’s none-too-bright schoolmates Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. Playing their prescribed roles in Hamlet’s drama as well as bumbling toward their own fate, they provide a backdoor view of Shakespeare’s classical tragedy. At the same time, Stoppard’s characters echo the existential concerns of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting For Godot.

Starring are Jon Green ’07 (Keene, NH) as Rosencrantz and Sunny Farnsworth ’07 (Holyoke, MA) as Guildenstern. Theatre program director David Rowland is director of the production, and Naomi Shafer ’07 (Williamsville, VT) is assistant director.

The play runs Thursday, December 8, at 7 p.m.; and Friday–Saturday, December 9–10, at 7:30 p.m. All performances take place in Silverthorne Theatre on the school’s Northfield campus.

Admission is $2 for NMH students, faculty, and staff, and $5 for all others. Seating is limited, so reservations are strongly recommended. They may be made via e-mail at david_rowland@nmhschool.org.
