NMH Upward Bound Program Seeks New Ninth-Grade Participants

November 1, 2004

NORTHFIELD, Mass—The Northfield Mount Hermon School Upward Bound Program is seeking new students from Springfield and Holyoke High Schools. A federally funded, year-round college preparation program for students who meet income eligibility or whose parents do not have a bachelor’s degree, Upward Bound helps students develop the skills and motivation to be successful in high school and to go on to college. They receive tutoring, academic advising, after-school classes, and college application assistance in their schools until graduation. Summers are spent at NMH where they take classes, receive tutoring and career exploration assistance, go on college and cultural trips, play sports and many other activities. Full scholarships worth up to $20,000 are available.

Current ninth graders interested in the program are encouraged to attend (with a parent or guardian) the presentations at Holyoke High School auditorium on Monday, November 15 at 6 pm, or at the Kasparian Center on Alton Street in Springfield at 7 pm. There will also be presentations on Monday, November 8 at 2 pm in the Holyoke High School auditorium and on Wednesday, November 10 during the day in the Springfield High Schools.

Upward Bound advisors will be available to answer questions in the high school libraries at lunch and after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Holyoke, Tuesdays at Sci-Tech and Wednesdays at Central. For more information, visit www.nmhschool.org/upwardbound, or call 413-498-3416.
