NMH Dance Company presents “SHIFT” performance

NORTHFIELD, Mass.— Beginning next fall, the Northfield Mount Hermon  Dance Company will be in unfamiliar surroundings. Because of the closing of the Northfield campus at the end of this school year, they will no longer be performing in the Silverthorne Theatre. To honor this change, the company has entitled its final of the school year performance “SHIFT.”

A fine array of styles and original choreography will be shown.  Director Gretel Schatz has choreographed a dance for the senior company inspired   by cubist painter Fernand Leger, a Quintet en pinte to selected songs of      George Gershwin as sung by Sarah Vaughn, and a comic polka piece for      the repertory group Snapdragon set to favorites by Frank Yankovic.          The junior company will join in to perform jazz to music by Stevie Wonder and another modern piece.

Special nods go to Kelly Griffin ’05 of Turner’s Falls and Susanna Ordway ’05 of Montpelier, VT who will be presenting their senior solos, and to            Sarah Shinkle ’05 (from Orange), Marie Rende ’05 (from Florence),      Amanda Clarke ’06, Olivia Krueger ’06, and Caitlin Nordehn ’05 who will present original group dances they have created.

SHIFT performances will take place in the Silverthorne Theatre on the Northfield campus on May 12 and 13 at 7:30 pm, and May 14 at 7 pm.  Tickets range from $2 to $5. For more information, please call                     (413) 498-3017.
