Press Release

NMH Jazz Dance Offers The Bee’s Knees & Cat’s Pajamas

Jazz, America’s honored art form, is Northfield Mount Hermon School’s “theme” this year. On November 5, 6, and 7, the school’s senior and junior dance companies, under the tutelage of Director Gretel Schatz and Dance teacher
Laurel Salvi, will present an original program of jazz, ballet, and modern dance entitled The Bee’s Knees & Cat’s Pajamas.

A highlight will be a Latin jazz piece Schatz choreographed to
Dizzy Gillespie’s Manteca, featuring accompaniment by the NMH World Music Combo. Other selections have been choreographed by students Marie Rende ’05 of Florence, MA; Genna Durante ’05 of Guilford, VT, and
Olivia Krueger ’06. And in the true spirit of jazz, the school’s repertory ensemble Snapdragon will perform an improvisatory piece centered around bags, purses,
and parcels.

Performances will be at 7:30 pm on November 5 and 6, and 2 pm on the 7th, and will take place in the Silverthorne Theatre on the Northfield campus. Tickets range from $2 to $5 and may be reserved by calling 413-498-3017. Children under 12 are free at the Sunday matinee.
