Prints by Julia Ferrari Showcased at NMH Gallery

NORTHFIELD, Mass—New Hampshire artist Julia Ferrari likes to think not only in terms of landscape, but also the human interaction with that landscape. It’s with this in mind that she approached her new exhibition, The Further Mound Series, currently on display at the Northfield Mount Hermon School’s Nada/Mason Gallery.

“I began this series with a number of loose ink drawings, then went on to produce this group of paintings,” notes Ferrari. “The main image is that of a hill or mound, and the corresponding activities within and above it. In what way does the environment of the painting shape and evoke our thoughts?”
Gallery Director Lisa Schmitt points out that Ferrari’s abstractions can also morph into landscapes of the human body itself. “Sometimes you can see shapes within shapes, where a tree can become a bone, and then back again,” she said. The themes contained in this exhibition include relationship of the personal to the natural world, landscapes, and describing our relationship to the element of time.

The Further Mound Series will continue at NMH through December 15. An artist’s reception with Ferrari will be held on Saturday, November 13 from
7 to 9 pm. The Nada/Mason Gallery is located in the Bolger Arts Center on the school’s Northfield campus. For more information, call 413-498-3297 or e-mail Lisa Schmitt at ldschmitt@nmhschool.org.
